DO YOU READ LABELS…YOU SHOULD!
A recent survey shows that the majority of consumers do not read the labels on the products they purchase, and if they do, it is usually only to check calorie amount. The top reason given was the difficulty in understanding the terms, and a close second was, too much time spent to figure it out. Hopefully I can shed a little light on the subject.
Let’s break down the label into sections and look at them separately.
The first section you will see is SERVING SIZE, and this is the amount of this particular product that one would typically consume during a specific time, however, it is not a recommendation of how much a person should consume. Serving size can be a set measure such as a cup, tablespoon, etc or simply state a serving size is one half of the product, etc. Here is the real key you need to know on the label, SERVINGS PER CONTAINER…you need to know this because some containers, packages or bottles contain multiple servings and it is very easy to sabotage your nutrition plan by not knowing. The label may show 300 calories, and that is within you plan, but there are actually 4 servings in this bag, and if you consume the entire bag, you have consumed 1200 calories…and I’m quite sure that was not your intention.
The CALORIE section simply shows the total calories in one serving.
The next section is NUTRIENTS…again, these amounts are per serving, not necessarily the entire package. Here you will find the fat total per serving, plus a break down into Saturated Fat and Trans Fat. If you are watching the fat content in order to reduce your bodyfat, or possibly to monitor your cholesterol, then this is the spot to know. You will also find the total sodium amount listed here, and this is very important because many foods have hidden sodium, or an amount that you would not associate as being a “salty food”
Since many are cutting back on carbs, this section on CARBOHYDRATES is very important, but I must add, the one that confuses consumers most.
Total carbohydrate refers to all carbohydrates found in each serving and it includes naturally occurring sugar, starch, added sugar and fiber.
NET CARBS refers to the total amount of carbs that the body can digest and turn into glucose. Calculate net carbs by subtracting the fiber amount and sugar alcohols that the body cannot process as carbs and turn into glucose , from the total amount of carbs. This is already calculated on the label, but I wanted to explain the process to you. For instance, you may pick up a product that says 20 grams of total carbohydrates, but it has 15 grams of fiber, so your net carbs are 5 grams.
On many products you will see the term, PROPRIETARY BLEND…this is a method that manufacturers use to group many separate ingredients under one heading without breaking down the specific amounts of each ingredient, and only showing a total amount for all ingredients in the proprietary blend. As a consumer, you are now at a disadvantage. I am very proud to say that Dr. Michael Lange and I do not allow “proprietary blends” in our products, we have a full disclose label, and you will not find Sucralose, Aspartame, soy, artificial flavors, binders or fillers in our products…what you will find are no-nonsense ingredients, formulated into top rated products by two doctor/nutritionists who have dedicated their lives to putting people on a solid wellness and fitness path.

Fortifeye Performance Nutrition
Fit…the Ultimate Muscle Fuel
When I first joined Fortifeye Performance Nutrition, Dr. Michael Lange tasked me with assisting him in bringing a new product idea he had to market. The idea was so unique, and had never been attempted before, and this I know from my 35 years in the nutrition field. I had been very concerned for several years about the pre-workout powders and the high energy drinks, and my best friend and colleague, Dr. Lange, shared those same concerns. The powders and drinks I was finding on the market were like chemical time bombs, and loaded with insane amounts of caffeine, stimulants, sugar, artificial sweeteners , artificial coloring and a long list of ingredients that should not be in the human body, and certainly not in these high dosages. We wanted a clean product, free from all the negative ingredients, and at the same time, deliver an energy and recovery profile that would actually be good for you. This was not an easy task, and we could have taken the easy path at many points in the creation of FiT…but we refused. We did our research, we gathered all the single ingredients we wanted in FiT, and the experiment began. Many late night sessions on the computer and in the lab, and even meeting each other at the interstate exit to exchange various powder blends we had created, that now had to be tested . Once we settled on the ingredients, potency and blend, we needed to make it taste good. This is where we were being told by several ingredient suppliers, flavoring suppliers, and even respected industry leaders, that our taste concern could be easy remedied by just adding Aspartame, Sucralose or even high amounts of Fructose sugar. This is when I told Dr. Lange that “we are very proud of what goes into our products, and equally as proud of what doesn’t” Well six months later we finally settled on our all natural blend and we never looked back.
FiT is a one of a kind blend that provides energy and endurance for exercise, while providing a very select blend to assist the body to recovery after exercise. It is very important to give the body exactly what it requires to recover after exercise because you have actually stressed the body, and the muscles, tendons and ligaments need to be repaired. FiT helps you to make that happen. You should see and feel a positive change in ROM (Range of Motion) and in DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness) and that’s just the beginning. Below is our suggested use ideas, but you may want to adjust to your own needs.
LEVEL ONE…this is for less intense workout or body exertion, but still has the energy factor and the recovery factor. One half scoop before activity, and one half after.
LEVEL TWO…stepping up the intensity level a bit and requiring a bit more for recovery…use FiT as above, and add one scoop of our Protein Concentrate to your after workout serving.
LEVEL THREE…for heavy workout and exertion, including long runs.
Use one scoop before, and one scoop after with a scoop of Fortifeye Super Protein.
Remember to hydrate during and after exercise.
I hope this helps you on your path to strength, endurance and wellness.

Boosting Your health Naturally
by Dr. Michael Lange
Fortifeye Vitamins researched the best possible dairy cows to use when developing Fortifeye Super Protein and Fortifeye Grass Fed Whey Isolate. It was concluded that year round grass fed dairy cows that are free from hormones and antibiotics would be used. The milk from these cows would be pasteurized for only 15 seconds at 72 degrees Celsius ” cold processing”. This keeps the delicate protein and amino acids intact, maintaining the proteins immune boostng properties and inactivates any pathogens. End result is a non denatured whey protein that has the highest biological value (BV) of all food grade proteins at a BV of 104.
A non denatured whey protein from grass fed cows will typically have 60% or higher omega 3 content in their milk versus non grass-fed cows milk. This higher content is crucial since the typical diet is pro inflammatory and already too high in omega 6. Consuming a whey protein with a higher ratio of omega 3 to omega 6 is a step in the right direction of building a strong healthy body.
Grass fed pasture raised cows are much higher in a very important fat called conjugated linoleic acid (CLA). Current and emerging science supports CLA having some health stimulating properties and possible health benefits. Grass fed pasture raised cows have up to 500% more CLA than non grass-fed cows.
A bioactive non denatured whey protein like Fortifeye Super Protein or Fortifeye Grass Fed Whey Isolate is one the best ways to stimulate the master antioxidant and detoxifier in the body called Glutathione. Non denatured means the protein has not been heated for longe periods of time or altered. The key amino acid, cysteine, combines with glutamic acid and glycine to make glutathione. Glutathione levels continuously decline as we age and Glutathione deficiencies are linked to many health issues. Replenishing glutathione levels by consuming a whey protein from grass fed cows is a great way to enhance the health of the body.
Lactoferrin, another key health boosting component of whey protein, is a globular glycoprotein that has many potential health benefits . This new science is one more potential benefit of consuming a non denatured whey protein to aid in a healthy body.
Grass Fed Whey Proteins are also high in specific Immunoglobulins, Beta-Lactoglobulin, Alpa-lactalbumin, Bovine Serum Albumin, Lactoperoxidase and Lysozyme all of which are responsible for a powerful health system. Build a powerful health system and support good health.
Whey Protein is high in essential and branch chain amino acids. Whey protein is especially high in a specific amino acid called leucine, the “Mack Daddy” amino acid for stimulating muscle synthesis. Whey protein is far superior to casein, soy, pea, rice, hemp, or any other protein for muscle synthesis. You can see all whey proteins are not created equal and whey protein is not just for improving muscle tone and athletic performance. Consuming a non denatured grass fed whey protein will help to enhance the bodies health and strength. Fortifeye makes both grass fed whey concentrate and isolate. if you have any negative reactions to dairy then you would want to use the isolate since all lactose and fat have been removed. Fortifeye Grass Fed Whey Isolate comes form grass fed American cows and Fortifeye Super Protein comes from grass fed New Zealand cows. It is amazing how the right cows can help you stay healthy!
Fortifeye also makes some other recommendations to help keep the body health . Fortifeye recommends eating multiple servings of organically grown fruits and vegetables that are on the Lange Survival Diet, eating some fermented food and eating wild Alaskan salmon 3 times per week. Many studies indicate that people the consume the most fruits and vegetables are less likely to be sick. Fortifeye has created Fortifeye Organic Blue Green Superfood that has 12 superfoods that are certified organic, fodmap free and gluten free. This is simple and easy to mix one scoop in a glass of water and drink daily. People with IBS can take the superfood with no digestive issues. The microbiome or gut flora is crucial for a healthy and strong system. Eating fermented food will enhance the digestive abilities of your stomach and intestines improving your immune system. You can take 2-3 probiotic capsules daily if you don’t want to eat the fermented food. There are many variety of probiotics you can purchase otc or you can order Fortifeye Probiotics online. Nutritional experts recommends eating wild Alaskan Salmon for its omega 3, protein and Astaxanthin . Astaxanthin is especially important do do to numerous studies indicating it is an amazing way to support your health. Astaxanthin is also one of the most potent natural antioxidant and anti-inflammatory on the planet. If you do not want to eat that much salmon, Fortifeye Focus has 6mg of Astareal Astaxanthin plus 10mg of lutein and 2mg of zeaxanthin.
You can now clearly see that there are some things you can do naturally to boost your health and promote wellness in your entire body at any age. God made a pretty good body if only the right fuel is given. Fortifeye Vitamins have taken the time and done the research to develop these fuels your body thirsts for. Eat healthy and be healthy.

Protecting Your Vision in the Digital Age
Great article on Exposure to blue light from digital screens written by Sean Moloughney that is posted on nutraceuticalsworld.com.
“Traditionally an area of focus for people later in life, maintaining healthy eyesight remains a top concern that extends to consumers across the age spectrum. Many experts today are concerned about the long-term health implications of overexposure to blue light from digital devices, especially for younger eyes.
For instance, according to a Harvard Health Publications newsletter, blue wavelengths in moderation are beneficial during daylight hours because they boost attention, reaction times, and mood. However, they can be especially disruptive at night, shifting circadian rhythms and suppressing melatonin. Overexposure can also lead to eye fatigue.”
Lutein and Zeaxanthin: Protection Against Blue Light Damage to Eyes
Dr. Michael Lange has been involved in Blue light research for many years and has developed a supplement called Fortifeye Focus that incorporates the latest in science into this one supplement. Dr. Lange also produces a lens called Blue Light Defense that filters the harmful blue light people come in contact with on a daily basis. The combination of the 2 new technologies Fortifeye Focus and Blue Light Defense lenses offers the highest protection from the potentially harmful blue light that is available today. Dr. Michael Lange is a huge advocate of filtering this harmful blue light at all ages and states this is one more large step into the realm of preventative medicine and anti aging. Here is a new article discussing the benefits of lutein and zeaxanthin isomers and blue light.
Macular carotenoid supplementation improves disability glare performance and dynamics of photostress recovery
Abstract
Background: The so-called macular carotenoids (MC) lutein (L), zeaxanthin (Z), and meso-zeaxanthin (MZ) comprise the diet-derived macular pigment (MP). The purpose of this study was to determine effects of MC supplementation on the optical density of MP (MPOD), repeated-exposure photostress recovery (PSR), and disability glare (DG) thresholds.
Methods: This was a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. Fifty-nine young (mean age = 21.7), healthy volunteers participated in this study. Subjects supplemented their daily diet with either 10 mg L + 2 mg total Z (1 mg Z + 1 mg MZ; n = 24), 20 mg L + 4 mg total Z (2 mg Z + 2 mg MZ; n = 25), or placebo (n = 10) for 12 months. The primary outcome was a composite measure of visual performance in glare, defined by change in DG and PSR. Secondary outcomes included MPOD and visual fatigue. The primary endpoint for outcomes was 12 months. MPOD was assessed with customized heterochromatic flicker photometry. PSR times for an 8 cycle /degree, 15 % contrast Gabor patch target were determined after each of five successive exposures to intense LED lights. DG threshold was defined as the intensity of a ring of lights through which subjects were able to maintain visibility of the aforementioned target. Measures of all parameters were conducted at baseline, 6 months, and 12 months. Repeated-measures ANOVA, and Pearson product-moment correlations were used to determine statistically significant correlations, and changes within and between groups.
Results: MPOD for subjects in both supplementation groups increased significantly versus placebo at both 6- and 12-month visits (p < 0.001 for all). Additionally, PSR times and DG thresholds improved significantly from baseline compared to placebo at 6- and 12-month visits (p < 0.001 for all). At baseline, MPOD was significantly related to both DG thresholds (r = 0.444; p = 0.0021) and PSR times (r = -0.56; p < 0.001). As a function of MPOD, the repeated-exposure PSR curves became more asymptotic, as opposed to linear. The change in subjects’ DG thresholds were significantly related to changes in PSR times across the study period (r = -0.534; p < 0.001). Conclusions: Increases in MPOD lead to significant improvements in PSR times and DG thresholds. The asymptotic shape of the repeated-exposure PSR curves suggests that increases in MPOD produce more consistent steady-state visual performance in bright light conditions. The mechanism for this effect may involve both the optical filtering and biochemical (antioxidant) properties of MP.
Trial registration: ISRCTN trial registration number: ISRCTN54990825. Data reported in this manuscript represent secondary outcome measures from the registered trial.

New Fodmap Friendly All Organic Blue Green Superfood Powder Developed by Dr. Michael Lange Soon to be added to the Fortifeye Family!
Dr Michael Lange has been taking care of a wide range of patients through out Florida since 1993, changing people’s lives through proper nutrition. Throughout his profession, Dr. Lange has seen first hand how poor diet can have a negative impact on his patients. He has been involved in nutritional research to support ocular and overall health. Progressively, more and more individuals are being negatively impacted by their poor diets and lifestyles. Sadly this is becoming more and more main stream at younger and younger ages. This comes from the body not being fueled with the beneficial nutrients the body needs to flourish. The diet of a typical person in this day and age consists of over processed, calorie dense, nutrient deficient, fast food filled with pesticides, hormones, and antibiotics. To all of his patients, radio listeners, family, and friends, Dr. Lange recommends an all organic gluten-free paleo type diet. However, even with this type of diet , one may still notice tenderness and bloating in the abdomen, belching, and even gas after eating. Many people experience Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), which can be aggravated by certain fruits and vegetables. Dr. Lange and Fortifeye Vitamins decided to research and develop a powdered super food using all organic and non GMO fruits and vegetables that would be ideal for anyone on a low carb diet, diabetics, even people experiencing IBS or other functional gastrointestinal disorders.
The new Fortifeye Blue Green Superfood is an all organic, Non GMO, delicious powder combining fruits and vegetables that are both Paleo and FODMAP friendly. Every ingredient, down to the flavor system, was taken into consideration in the development of this product. All nutrients found in the Fortifeye Blue Green Superfood are sourced from the United States. Many Super Food related products use inexpensive binders, bulking agents, and fillers such as flax, psyllium, acacia, oat bran, etc. which leads the consumer to believe they are getting a healthy fiber and more bang for their buck in each scoop. However, this is not the case. In reality, both soluble and insoluble fibers may block the absorption of the nutrients from the overall product. You will NOT find any of these fiber fillers in our Blue Green Superfood powder. Ingredients will include but not be limited to: Spirulina, Kale, Spinach, Barley Grass Juice, wheat grass juice, Parsley, Cucumbers, Peppermint Leaf, Blue Berries, Strawberries, Cranberries, and Cinnamon.
Fortifeye Blue Green Superfood is expected to retail MSRP at $35 a container and will be available in Berry flavor with Chocolate flavor to follow. You can get this product first ONLY here at Fortifeye.com. Stay tuned for more progress and release date on the product!

Dr Michael Lange discusses Proper Digestion for good ocular & overall health
Dr Michael Lange discusses Proper Digestion for good ocular health and overall health
Proper digestion is crucial for good ocular health as well as overall health discussed by Dr Michael Lange
When the food you consume on a daily basis is not digested well then the absorption of the nutrients is limited. As we age our digestion can stop working at its peak level and then our overall health can suffer. Many things can interfere with the natural digestive enzymes and natural bacteria in our digestive system and this can result in all sorts of conditions. Diet is often times the culprit for digestive issues. Todays diets are caloric dense and nutrient deficient. These foods are overly processed, genetically modified , filled with pesticide, antibiotics, hormones, nitrites , nitrates, sugar, dyes, artificial sweeteners and preservatives. All of this can cause enormous stress on the digestive system. Millions of people are plagued daily with food allergies, constipation, diarrhea, gas, acid reflux, heart burn, bloating, cramping and low energy . All of these can be related to poor digestion.

The AntiAging Zone
1. Proper Diet is crucial! I recommend a modified organic gluten free paleo diet. The largest portion of your meal should be vegetables , then fruit and then a good organically raised source of protein like eggs, chicken, turkey, wild cold water fish , grass fed bison or beef. Stay away form all processed, canned, frozen foods. Drink plenty of spring water and stay away from distilled or reverse osmosis water. I dont like these type of purified waters because the minearls are leached out and they are very acidic. However if u have an RO system you can make the water healthy water Continue reading

Dr. Michael Lange Discusses Nutritional & Lifestyle Intervention for Macular Degeneration Published: Thursday, June 26, 2014
Article Link: http://beforeitsnews.com/health/2014/06/dr-michael-lange-discusses-nutritional-lifestyle-intervention-for-macular-degeneration-2540480.html
Macular Degeneration is the leading cause of legal blindness in the U.S. in the over 55 age group, said Dr. Michael Lange. There are over two million people that are vision impaired from macular degeneration. It is estimated that over three million people will have Age Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD) by 2020.
Macular degeneration is a medical condition that causes degeneration of the central part of the retina, called the macula. The macula is a small Continue reading
New New Technology and Proper Nutrition becomes Gold Standard for Macular Degeneration.
Dr Michael Lange has been involved in nutritonal research for Macular Degeneration for many years and has been developing a system of proper nutrition based on age, weight, disease level and DNA. The ultimate goal is to help the ocular health and total health of his patients. Proper nutrition is only one piece of the puzzle that is extremely important in managing macular degeneration patients. Dr Lange and many other Doctors are now utilizing DNA testing to help them gauge the potential severity of the macular degeneration and to determine if zinc is good or bad for the ARMD patient. This helps the optometrist or ophthalmologist cutomize the patients diet and supplements. The DNA testing also helps the doctor in determining how often a particular patient should be seen and what Continue reading

Natural Therapy of Meibomian Gland Dysfunction and Dry Eyes.
Michael Lange OD, CNS founder of Lange Eye Care and The Lange Eye Institute has used natural approaches to improve Meibomian gland dysfunction and dry eyes since 1992 with great success. Dr. Lange discusses the protocol he uses for dry eye and Meibomian gland problem patients.
Natural therapy for meibomian gland dysfunction and dry eye is a combination of proper lid hygiene, good diet, plenty of hydration, correct ratio of supplements and proper lubricating eye drops. Blepharitis a condition that causes the eye lids to become inflamed and crusty secondarily to a host of pathogens. Meibomian gland dysfunction is when small glands along the lower and upper lid margins become blocked and inflamed. These conditions can lead to lid infections, dry eyes and permanent vision loss if proper treatment isn’t initiated. The eye lids accumulate lots of bacteria, viral flora, antigens. mold, fungus and parasites so it is crucial that the lids are cleaned properly. Dr. Lange recommends seeing your local optometrist or ophthalmologist to determine if you have blepharitis and if so what kind??
Most mild forms of blepharitis can be controlled with a special lid scrub foam like Ocusoft Plus. Moderate forms of blepharitis will need Ocusoft Platinum foam or Oasis Hypochlorus eye lid spray However, some forms of blepharitis are related to a parasite called demodex. If demodex is in the lashes and the hair follicles then traditional lid scrubs will not help . Dr. Lange recommends use of a commercially available product called Ocusoft Demodex Cleanser to treat this type of demodex condition. The combination of lid scrubs will get most forms of blepharitis under control within one to two months. However if this condition does not respond to this therapy then a topical and sometimes oral medication may be prescribed.
Dr. Lange recommends using hot compresses two to three times a day for ten minutes with gentle massage of the lid margins. This will help to liquify the clogged meibomian glands and allow the outer lipid layer of the tear film to be healthy. A patient can use a warm wash cloth for this but the simplest and most effective way to heat up the meibomian glands is to use a Bruder eye hydrating Mask, this mask retails for $25 and last for years. The combination of hot compresses and lid scrubs will open up the meibomian glands and allow a much healthier secretion of tears resulting in improved dry eye symptomology.
Michael Lange OD, CNS also states that an over haul in the typical American diet is crucial for dry eye patients. Most Americans are eating a highly refined and overly processed diet very high in omega 6. He recommends patients adapt an all organic, gluten free diet. He has developed a diet called “The Lange Survival Diet”. This is an anti inflammatory diet that helps the body detoxify. The typical American diet is pro inflammatory and is one of the reasons we have so much inflammation in the body. Inflammation is a root cause of dry eyes. Natural treatment of dry eyes starts with adjustment in the diet. Michael Lange OD sees many patients with meibomian gland dysfunction improve dramatically with just an improvement in diet.
Most Americans are dehydrated! Dehydration is also a major contributing factor to dry eyes. Michael Lange OD, CNS preaches on his syndicated radio show and to his patients to drink half your body weight in spring water. Drink spring water, or Watt-Ahh water not distilled water or reverse osmosis water. Spring water is high in minerals and relatively alkaline. Reverse osmosis and distilled water is acidic and mineral free. In theory if a patient drinks a lot of distilled water or reverse osmosis water then due to the laws of osmosis the minerals in the body can be leached out causing mineral deficiency in the body. This can aggravate a dry eye condition.
Dr Lange also recommends drinking 1-2 glasses of coconut water a day to gain some valuable minerals like magnesium and potassium.
One cup of coffee a day may be beneficial for dry eyes however more than one cup becomes a diuretic. To counter effect the coffee one must drink three additional cups of water for every cup of coffee. Nutritional supplements for dry eyes and blocked meibomian glands are becoming the gold standard because they work.
Dr Michael Lange has also been adding a non denatured whey protein concentrate from grass fed New Zealand or American cows to all of his dry eye patients. This type of protein is very high in covalent bonded cysteine, CLA and lactoferrin. Blending one scoop of this form of protein along with either spring water, coconut water, coconut milk, goats milk , A2 cows milk or hemp milk in a smoothie is a great way to get theses valuable dry eye nutrients. This can also be used as a meal replacement to help with weight management. Fortifeye Vitamins has a delicious non denatured whey protein concentrate from New Zealand grass fed cows called Fortifeye Super Protein. The best deal on a whey protein is the Fortifeye Grass Fed Whey Isolate in a bag at only $59 for 60 servings. This whey isolate is also non denatured and comes form American grass fed cows.
Dr. Lange recommends 1600- 2400 mg of triglyceride form omega 3 fish oil daily for anyone under 240lbs. If you are over 240 lbs then higher amounts of triglyceride form omega 3 fish oil is recommended. The addition of 6 mg of a super carotenoid called astaxanthin can be taken with omega 3 fish oil. Astaxanthin is one of the most potent natural anti inflammatory/ antioxidant nutrients. Astaxanthin helps to reduce eye strain , improve focusing ability of the eye and reduce eye fatigue associated with prolonged near point or computer work. Astaxanthin helps control oxidative stress and inflammation. Many new studies are proving astaxanthin is beneficial for dry eyes. The combination of 1600 mg -2400mg of omega 3 and 6 mg of astaxanthin has seen reduction in dry and tired eye symptoms. Michael Lange OD, CNS is the formulator of three specific supplements he developed for Dry Tired eyes: Fortifeye Super Omega has 1600mg of TG form Omega 3 , Fortfeye Super Omega 3 Max with 2400 mg of TG form Omeg 3 and Fortifeye Focus has 6mg of astaxanthin, 10 mg of lutein and 2 mg of zeaxanthin isomers. Learn more at old.fortifeye.com . Astaxanthin also has some other great evidence based health benefits; acting as a natural sun screen, minimizes fine lines and wrinkles in the face, astaxanthin improves choroidal circulation, lowers CRP and cholesterol, improves muscle endurance and muscle recovery and has a very high ORAC value so great at quenching free radicals. Wild Alaskan Salmon is a power food because it has both omega 3 in the triglyceride form and astaxanthin. The combination of Fortifeye Super Omega Or Super Omega 3 Max and Fortifeye Focus seems to improve the quality of tear film that is secreted . Patients also report this combination seems to help lower inflammation in the entire body . Its maximum effect takes three to four months but many people notice some improvement in two weeks. One last nutrient that has some benefit for dry eyes is GLA. However the ratio of GLA is crucial if its going to work. GLA is an omega 6 and if too much is taken it will increase inflammation in the body. GLA from black currant seed oil seems to work the best due to the fact that it has ALA (vegetable source of omega 3 ) as well as GLA. Dr. Lange has tried many different combinations of GLA and Omega 3 in extremely busy dry eye practices in Florida and has come to the conclusion that a ratio of close to 10-1 omega 3 to GLA is ideal natural therapy for dry eyes. For dry eye benefits he recommends 130-160mg of GLA to 1600-2400 mg of omega 3. Michael Lange OD, CNS says the triple whammy for natural dry eye treatment is Fortifeye Super Omega 2 -4 per day depending on weight, 1 Fortifeye Focus, and 1 Fortifeye Black Currant oil/ GLA. This combination has been bundled together and is called Fortifeye Advanced Dry Eye Therapy: https://old.fortifeye.com/products/advanced-dry-eye-therapy/ Doctors all over the globe are recommending this new dry eye supplement to their patients with positive results
The final part to natural treatment of dry eyes is to add a good lubricating eye drop. Michael Lange OD, CNS likes to use preservative free lubricating eye drops if they are going to be used more than two times a day. Optase, Oasis tears , Oasis tears plus, Retaine MGD and Fresh Kote are four lubricating eye drops Dr Lange uses on most of his patients. He likes Oasis and Optase because it has a form of hyaluranic acid that helps eliminate dry eye symptoms longer than most OTC artificial tears. Often times in very dry eyes related to meibomian gland dysfunction he will add Retaine MGD preservative free drops along with Oasis, Optase or Fresh Kote to get broader coverage.
In summary , when a combination of proper lid hygiene, diet, hydration, correct supplements and good artificial tears are used many dry eye conditions that are a result of blepharitis and meibomian gland dysfunction will start to improve. Patients with dry eyes have come from all over the country to The Lange Eye Institute in The Villages Florida to learn more about natural treatment for dry eyes. Free Radicals, antioxidants and ORAC
Fortifeye Complete Vitamins combat against free radical damage with their
newest powerhouse antioxidants.
A free radical is a molecule with a missing or unpaired electron in its outer shell. Free radicals are unstable and highly reactive, they will search out the nearest stable molecule to steal an electron thus creating another free radical and a free radical cascade. This process is called oxidative stress or oxidative damage. The final result is the death of the cell. Evidence is accumulating that many degenerative diseases of the body and the eye originate as a result of free radical reactions. Continue reading

Omega three is quite a buzz word lately.
The world is going through an omega three explosion. You hear about the positive health benefits from increased consumption of omega three fatty acids on talk shows, advertisements, health food stores, drug stores, the Internet and from your friends and physicians. There are so many different means of obtaining omega three fatty acids that it becomes quite confusing. Currently the best and most bioavailable form of omega three fatty acids is derived from marine sources. Fish oil, krill oil and squid oil (calamari) have the highest most bioavailable forms of omega three fatty acids. Fish oil currently has by far the most clinical research linking the positive health benefits to omega three out of the three mentioned.
